About Anthony Choy

Anthony Choy (b. 1995, Hong Kong) is a contemporary visual artist whose practice bridges spatial design, intuitive mark-making, and psychological narrative. Originally trained in architectural drafting, interior design, and fine art, Choy interrogates the boundaries between physical enclosure and internal imagination. This dual foundation creates a distinctive tension in his work — balancing architectural structure with raw, improvisational expression.

Moving away from calculated figurative replication, Choy relies on automatic drawing and spontaneous mark-making to establish the emotional core of each composition. From fluid subconscious gestures, structured environments emerge: theatrical interiors, uncanny domestic chambers, and recursive thresholds.

His practice extends beyond isolated scenes into cohesive visual mythologies. Treating each canvas as a staged chamber or psychological threshold, Choy explores themes of estrangement, impossible transits, and recursive introspection. Through suspended props, cast shadows, and shifting planes of solid ground, his painted narratives investigate how solitary figures navigate the delicate space between external confinement and internal longing.
